In 1978 Mr. W. J. VINE published a local ‘history’ of Willingdon.

Generations of Vine families have lived in this village for over 200 years. From family records and reports, handed down from generation to generation, one finds that throughout the whole of this time they have been either farmers or butchers or, as in the last three previous generations, have been both; throughout this period they have always taken an active and prominent interest in the activities of the Church and Village affairs. Greatly interested in sport especially that of cricket.

In 2019 a small group of Willingdon residents decided that a second volume of the book would be an interesting project and are researching subsequent stories from the village. Under the working title “Not-so-old Willingdon” this book will update the original and bring the story up to date.

As part of this project we are also re-publishing the original book which, after seeking some information from the Vine family, we will launch before Christmas this year. The book is available here. It will be delivered by post shortly after the launch on 23 November. All income going to the Willingdon Community Hub Library Trust – a registered charity formed to run the Willingdon Library after its closure by Wealden council in 2018.
